Title: Interface IGC2 always down after reboot
Post by: myksto on August 22, 2025, 10:40:45 AM
I have this strange issue.
I had it on older Opnsense versions so it's not 25.7 related.
After I reboot the firewall for any reason, one interface (IGC2 - OPT1) is always down: I have to physically disconnect and then reconnect the network cable from the switch to have it up again. My Opnsense box has 4 identical ethernet devices: Intel i226V controller.

I started to have this issue after I changed hardware. Before I had Opnsense installed on an old Dell 1950 server then I bought a tiny box https://www.amazon.it/dp/B0DNXPVSMY and started to have this problem.

I would like to know why this happens and how I can solve it to.

Thanks a lot,
Michele

Finding a way to put interface up without having to physically disconnect and reconnect the cable could be of some help.

Thanks,
Michele.

I would switch to another port if you have any unused ones. Or if none unused are available, switch two ports. If the issue moves to the new port, then it would indicate an issue with the cable or the switch port. Changing the switch port could help, too. Or set the speed from automatic to a fixed speed. If the issue stays with the physical port then it the port may have an issue.
