Title: CPU at 100% and widgets fail to load after applying 25.7.1_1 hotfix
Post by: AG_2023 on August 05, 2025, 03:37:08 AM
I was running OPNsense 25.7.1 without any issues. Then I saw that a hotfix 25.7.1_1 was released.

Before applying the hotfix, I took a snapshot. After applying hotfix, the CPU immediately went to 100% and I found that Caddy Domains widget failed to load. Slowly other widgets also showed "Widget failed to load". I watched overnight but same behavior. I reverted back the snapshot which should have taken the system back to 25.7.1, but for some reason, dashboard is showing 25.7. However, CPU is back to normal and all widgets are loading. I tested applying the 25.7.1_1 hotfix twice and both time, CPU went to 100% and stayed there for extended time with widgets failed to load error on Caddy Domains and few other widgets.

Without applying 25.7.1_1 hotfix, the Dynamic DNS is showing Current IP and Updated columns blank. These columns were showing correct values prior to 25.7 update. So 25.7 broke Dynamic DNS client. 25.7.1_1 fixed it but broke lot of other things.

Just mentioning it in case someone else has seen the same issue.

I have successfully upgraded and it has been running stably for 2 days.

Mines spiking to 75% and rendering the whole thing useless but after a random amount of time, it will work fine anywhere from 30 mins to 6 hours then hit 75% and chug along for a while and pass some packets but eventually everything just stops working. Tried updating which turned into an endeavour, ended up having to wipe my disk completely and to a fresh install then upgrade from within console then log out and log back in as installer to get 25.7.1_1 but still having the same freeze issue albeit a lot less often. I'm running in proxmox beta on a hp dl360 g8 and dl380 g9, both had the same issue so I don't think it's hardware related.

This is a sad event. Some big hardware brands have their own ideas.

It works fine for me. Do you all use virtualization software?

I have the same problem. CPU spikes and widgets have problems loading.
I'm running bare metal without virtualization.

Update: it seems, that the CPU only is at 100%, while I'm viewing the dashboard. If I navigate away, after some time the CPU returns to normal. Back to dashboard, back to 100%.

I upgraded to 25.7.1_1 yesterday, and it went OK.  I had to plug a display and keyboard into the system to see what was hanging up the reboot, but it continued on its own once I did so I'm not sure why it failed to reboot itself the first time.  It then ran fine yesterday and overnight.

This morning I noticed the dashboard had accumulated a lot of "Failed to load widget" errors, and the CPU temp was very high at 71C, it was always 50-60C prior.  It then dropped straight to 53C, and then rose steadily back up to 70+, lather/rinse/repeat.

No changes to configuration otherwise, but some strange CPU temp cycling behavior on 25.7.1_1.

Edit: Just noticed after posting that the "Insight Aggregator" service had stopped, and had to be restarted.  It's not something I use, really, but my system has never had a problem with services stopping before.  Minisforum UN100D, N100, 8GB, 256GB SSD.
