Hi,
I remember somewhere that Zenarmor were looking at increase the number of policies for the Home licence, but can't find the info right now.
Was before Christmas if I remember correctly.
Did this ever go anywhere?
I'm not using ZA right now, but have a case where a family member might need to use it for the kids family controls, but they would need more than 3 policies...
Thanks
That was part of the last year survey.
Regards,
S.
This has been increased in version 2.0.
Version 2.0 release notes:
Improvement
Home edition now supports 200 devices and 5 policies (1 Default + 4 Customizable).
Hi,
Yes, it has been increased in version 2.0. You need to remove the key and add it again.
Thank you very much for this important improvement :-) This is indeed a main argument to keep my home plan, as I can now achieve the needed granularity without fiddling with compromises as a result of only 3 policies.
Please consider to include also multicore support in home plan, thanks in advance :-)

I, too, hope that they will do that. For differentiation purposes they could limit the number of threads in the home edition to something like 4 or 8 and allow unlimited threads in their Enterprise edition.

I'm not a enterprise but I could use the multicore support at home. Even if they don't want it on the base Home plan it would be nice to have it accessible to Homelabs.

Yes, multicore support is important to me as well, but I don't necessarily need 16 threads. So if they were to limit it to - say - 8 threads, I'd be perfectly okay with that.
I didn't realize the policy count had increased....awesome!
I also wish that multi-threading was available since I don't have the fastest single core speeds but I have lots of cores to throw at the processing.
Even 2 or 4 cores would be a huge improvement.
I'm going to be very disappointed if they don't give paid home users something.
Even raising the price or having a higher tier home plan would be fine with me.
Hello @jlficken,
Glad to hear you're excited about the new 5-policy limit — that one came straight from the majority of requests we've been hearing, so we're happy to make it part of the Home subscription.
On multi-core support: we definitely see the value for power users like yourself, but at the same time it's not something the broader Home community has been asking for, and if we make it too powerful, we start seeing the Home plan misused in business environments (which the license isn't meant for). That's why we've kept the Home subscription balanced for personal use while still growing it step by step.
That said — we do want to support the advanced setups that some of our most passionate users are running. We're considering a SASE Starter tier that would fit more of lab-builder needs.
This isn't ready yet and will likely be invite-only rather than a generally available tier — but if that sounds interesting, feel free to reach out to us directly and we'd be happy to explore it with you.
This position might make me reconsider my subscription to be honest. Multi core support for core functions is not really a 'power user' option when you offer IPS and Filtering policies as part of the Home subscription, but for many they are unusable on what is now a fairly standard 900mbps home connection if you want full throughput. How do you define 'broader home community?' I daresay that community probably doesn't use a next gen firewall, need 5 policies, use IPS, or even uses Zenarmor (or indeed OPNSense) at all! There wasn't multi-core support when I started my subscription, but I didn't realise that and was surprised, and later found I could not use the IPS as a result. When I thought it was a technical limitation it was annoying but something I tolerated whilst frequently considering if I was actually getting good value. Now the omission of multi-core support is a purely commercial decision, that shifts the balance for me.
One for me to think about carefully over the coming days.
@Taunt9930,
Thanks for your response & feedback.
We have indeed done several surveys with our existing home users - I was referring to the result of these surveys [1]. About 5% of the respondents had asked for support for multi-gigabit throughputs. Zenarmor's (and OPNsense) home user base is all tech savvy tech professionals who are very specific about their requirements when it comes to home security.
Quick question: You should be able to easily do 900 Mbps even with single-core as of now, with a fairly standard hardware.
Can you tell me a little bit about your hardware?

Sorry mb but this is a bit of corporate nonsense.
As mentioned above by @Taunt9930 the "multi-core" is not a power user feature, but an essential feature.
The survey you did is as well not properly reflecting reality, as many users don't care about it and user who did fill it didn't even know this could be a possibility. You are partially correct that adding more features for HOME sub could cause a miss-usage, but lets be honest here, HOME sub is already very cut so if it had an essential feature like this it would not cause any extra miss-usage....

Don't take this the wrong way but..... but this is stupid. So instead giving home labers multicore support for a HOME labing based sub, you want to make us to choose a subscription for a features set we do not want, have no use or even care? This is not the way, and I can imagine a lot of people will rebel, because this basically feels forced.
