Title: Performance issue with VLAN node and BATMAN involved
Post by: chr1s on April 13, 2025, 02:59:51 PM
Hi!

I have a weird performance issue and I am not sure how to solve it.
My OpnSense firewall is installed on a proxmox server. On this proxmox server I have two nodes - one LAN node and one node in VLAN 66.
I have an OpenWRT access point connected to the firewall, a 2.5 Gbit connection for LAN and 1 Gbit connection for other VLANs (management, iot, guest, vlan66). This access point is connected via WIFI to 5 other access points via B.A.T.M.A.N. mesh, serving all vlans. However, none access point is part of VLAN66.

I have attached a generalized network map.

I figured out, that my node in vlan66 can only transfer < 5 Mbit/s to nodes connected to other access points in my lan, so I tested with some iperf3 tests.

node vlan 66 -> access point 1 (lan) = 2.3 Gbit/s
node vlan 66 -> access point 2 (lan) = 4-5 Mbit/s

However, if I try this with a lan node on my proxmox setup, I get similar numbers, if I test directly between the access points:

node lan -> access point 1 (lan) = 2.3 Gbit/s
node lan -> access point 2 (lan) = 120 Mbit/s

I have no idea how to further analyze this. Do you have any hints for me, where to look into?

Kind regards,
   Christian

How about you share some details about PVE's network configuration? Same for the various VMs involved.
