Title: Inspur Intel x540-t2 NIC not showing as an available interface
Post by: reecezwoos on March 15, 2025, 09:56:25 PM
I cannot figure out why this NIC does not work, I can see link lights when I plug in ethernet cables, but OPNSENSE will not show them as available interfaces to assign.

Welcome to the forum.
Please check dmesg and ifconfig. Looking for clues as these are pretty well supported NICs

I should have mentioned, it does not show up in ifconfig, I see my current WAN interface, current LAN interface, a loopback interface, pfsync0, pflog0, and enc0 interface. From what I have read I should see IX0 and IX1 for this card. I am not currently seeing that. dmesg I do not see the card show up, but it is getting power as I see link lights from it when I plug in an ethernet cable.

Thanks

OK but if there is nothing about the card in dmesg then the OS can not see it and therefore it can't do anything with it.
I'd suggest to try a live OS with vanilla freeBSD for a proper comparison with OPN.
A live linux distro would be helpful too but you would want to see what freeBSD sees or fails to see in this case.
Honestly if the lights are on, I expect something in dmesg.

Perhaps try another card in the slot, or this card in another slot. I have a bad one in my old P67 board, the primary x16. Power, but no signal at all, apparently. The secondary (shared/switched) x8 works. One of these days I may take a closer look at it, just to see if I'm completely blind and missed an obvious connector issue.
