Title: Old-Style Dashboard based on the new MVC?
Post by: patient0 on February 21, 2025, 10:59:47 AM
Hi,

To start: I don't want to offend anyone or belittle the effort put into the new dashboard.

I'm still not "feeling" the new dashboard, especially I don't get the widgets aligned up well and changing the size doesn't result in what I'd like to see (and the left menu is always visible unless I make the browser windows smaller - I thought it was possible to hide in earlier versions but maybe I'm wrong).

I'm aware that's probably only me and my own OCD or whatever triggering but I can't resist the questions:

I have the same grievance with the new widgets. Most of all I'd love them to align to a proper grid.

I have no idea how much work a complete reimplementation would take, because that's what "create old-style" essentially means. I doubt it's feasible. But possibly the alignment nuisance and the resizing issues can be fixed in the new one.

One hint for you: you can still collapse the menu with a single click.

Mmmh, I see. I have not seen that "<" in either Firefox nor Chromium. I have to investigate ... but I'm happy that this should work.

reimplementation: I was just wondering if it would be possible to extend the current design to include different display output mode for a widget. Obviously it depends how many people like to see it happen.

Size and align to grid: I do see it as a flaw of me to want that but at least I'm not completely alone with it :)

Addition: collapse menu > It's a screen size topic. I'm working on my laptop and OPNsense is running on a Proxmox server. The resolution of the Linux client (also running on Proxmox) I use to connect to OPNsense is 1200x800. Then I don't see the collapse thingy. The minimum resolution that shows the 'collapse icon' it is 1400 (x900).
