Title: changing OPNsense hostname breaks Web GUI
Post by: Kat on February 08, 2025, 06:34:46 AM
Hello, I was updating the hostname of an OPNsense router, going to the new hostname allows me to get to the login screen, but all of the GUI elements are gone and I am unable to select any new pages as they are all blank. I have tried restarting the router multiple times with no luck. Reverting to the old hostname fixes the issue but I want to change the hostname due to changes in my network. The router does resolve in my browser but something breaks inside of the Web GUI, I have tried clearing browser caches and using another device and have the same issues. I have left the hostname changed to see if it would fix itself over time but it does not.

Would anyone know how to fix this or how to proceed with a bug report if this is one?

Thanks

I am on a brand new fresh install of 25.1, I changed my hostname as one of my first acts but my gui did not experience any ill effects from this as far as I can tell. My system is slower than molasses in january though for unknown reasons as I am new.

I from what I gather from other posts, bug reports can be done on the github?

I had set my hostname during setup and that one works but any changes after initial setup breaks the pannel. I had tried clearing rebooting, resetting browser and using different devices between changes and only the original set hostname works

I would also like to say that this issue only exists with the new router hostname, connecting to the router with the ip does not have this issue.

I had a similar issue with Proxmox after changing the network settings.  It resolved after I generated a new self-signed TLS certificate for it, because apparently that wasn't handled automatically.

Try updating the WebUI cert in OPNsense and removing the exception/override for the old self-signed cert from your browser settings.

unfortunately it seems that renewing the cert didn't fix the issue, I may have to just reinstall

What is the new hostname?
What IP address does it resolve to?
Did you change the listen interfaces for the UI in any way?
Are you running unbound as a recursive DNS server?
Do you have registration of local interfaces in DNS enabled?
Did you create a host override for the hostname you picked?

Etc.

Why do you think reinstalling would fix anything? This is not Windows. Try to answer the questions as good as possible.
