Title: Error 19 On Install / Extraction Error 0x8000FFFF:
Post by: kuraken on February 07, 2025, 05:30:34 PM
Hello All,

I downloaded the new ISO and upon extraction i received the following error. I was able to extract it via 7zip but then on install proceeded to get error 19 on initial load up.
After that point I went and downloaded the previous ISO of 24 and received the same error at this point i figured ok this is a me issue. so I got on a different machine and received the same error 0x8000FFFF: the odd thing is I am able to extract 23 and install from 23 just fine its just 24 and 25 that give out this error when trying to extract and if i extract via 7zip i get error 19 as previously mentioned.

I searched around the forums but didn't see anyone else having this specific issue. Am I going crazy?

Thank you in advance.

What are you trying to do with the ISO after you extract/decompress it with 7zip?

Sorry I might have misspoken when i stated ISO. I am trying to extract the iso from the tar to mount it and am getting this issue.
Downloaded ISO/ archive
- Extracting via windows fails with previous error
 - extracting with 7zip works but then i get error 19 on install.
It is acting like something is wrong with the hosted iso archive.

You didn't answer my question.... when you successfully "extract" the ISO with 7zip, what are you doing with it next? i.e. what steps are between using 7zip and getting this "error 19"?

I recently downloaded 25.1 and tried to uncompress the bz2 using Win11. It somehow tried to expand the ISO in the process and failed...
I resorted to WSL+Ubuntu, which worked as expected.
My previous experience was with 24.7 and Win10 (which didn't have support for bz2). Since I had WSL there already, that was my next step and it just worked too.

In my case, the next steps were typically upload to proxmox and install.

this is very likely the idiosyncrasy of the images' compression and the way different tools interact; but it turns out the images are fine, as long as the download is not corrupted. First of all, if in doubt, use the signature and checksum, although it should be done always anyways. Assuming the checkshums are all good then just change the tool.
As an example, I know now the workaround for me. I use Ubuntu linux desktop for my laptop that I normally use for managing my devices.
If I use "Files" which is Nautilus in reality and I right click an OPN .iso.bz2 and select "open with - Files app", I will get an error: "There was an error while extracting "OPNxx.iso.bz2" Ignoring out-of order file @jcjcj" .
If however I right-click "Open with -File roller app" then I can see the .iso image , then right click on it and extract. All is fine.

Now this is linux's desktop apps which include usual *nix compression formats. There are multiple ways to try.
Windows will probably have other tools.
Long story short, if the checksums are fine and therefore sure they're downloaded OK, just use another compression/decompression utility and all will be fine.
