Title: DHCPv6 not working
Post by: nicktayl88 on December 24, 2024, 07:05:46 AM
I am trying to get ISC DHCPv6 working with stateless router advertisement on Opnsense.

All I want to achieve is having a single DNS server assigned by DHCPv6, the actual client ipv6 addressing will be handled by SLAAC.

I have configured a DNS server under the ISC DHCPv6 service configuration. Though the client is getting no DNS server assigned by DHCP.

I have taken a pcap from my client, I am seeing a DHCP advertise reply from Opnsense. But no DNS server gets assigned.

Am I missing anything, or is this a limitation of Opnsense DHCPv6

The IPv6 from your DNS-Server: Is this youre IPv6 or a public DNS server?
Which client are you using? If it's an mobile device it is possible, that DHCPv6 not working, so you need to setup the router advertisment DNS.

It is a windows client, and doesn't support RA DNS assignment. Hence the reason for dhcpv6.

I am trying to assign a public v6 dns server (google) via dhcpv6.
