Title: System instability since going form 24.7.4 to .5 and .6
Post by: TestUserPleaseIgnore on October 20, 2024, 12:02:52 AM
What logs Can i provide? I keep getting a few consistant errors.
One is :
kern.ipc.maxpipekva exceeded see tuning(7)
'Zroot' has encountered a I/o failure and has been suspended.

Disk passes smart, Ram passes ram test. And no issues prior to my move to .5.

I've attached logs if anyone would be kind enough to tell me what I've done wrong.

Assuming your Realtek nic for WAN works without problem, your disk or storage subsystem is not OK.
First try changing the disk. If that still doesn't solve, then the cable, controller on Motherboard, etc. could be at fault.

Would running off a USB thumb drive be a suitable test for a while?

I don't know if the installer would not accept it as an installation target, but if it accepts it, yes.
Only for testing though. You wouldn't want to install an OS on a such a device.

Ran for roughly 48 hours then got the same crash. Any further ideas?

same error or different? Don't assume two crashes with the changed setup are from the same reason.

Still getting the:
'Zroot' has encountered a I/O failure and has been suspended.

Have not got the other one yet.

So in playing with it, and watching I looks to me its crashing when it needs to write the ram disk to the physical disk. Could this be an issue with ZFS?

I have a new disk coming from Amazon, and I've put in a new stick of ram.

If you want to do another test, you could do what you have done now but using UFS instead of ZFS.

But what do you mean writing ram disk to physical disk?
Are you running it as the Embedded option ? https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/install.html
Please provide the description of your setup to be able to help better, otherwise we're just guessing.
