Title: Cannot run OPNSense on Virtual Machine to able to run VPN on router
Post by: taadaahh on October 08, 2024, 07:11:18 PM
Hi everyone, I am new to OPNSense so please bare with me.

I wanted to install a VPN Client on my TP-Link Archer C80 router, so that all traffic connected to my router is routed through Mullvad VPN. I discovered that my router does not support Client nor Server VPN, so I randomly stumbled upon this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B4FW5pf2wA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B4FW5pf2wA) youtube video tutorial, where I can protect my home network with the help of OPNSense and Mullvad.

Since I don't have any hardware to install OPNSense on, I though I'd setup a Virtual Machine to run it through that.  So I set everything up and everything was running smoothly, up until I tried to login to OPNSense Web GUI via the IP adress provided in the config windows of OPNSense.

I have a dualbooted PC with Widnows 11 and Ubuntu, but I am running the VM on Windows 11. When I tried to login to OPNSense on Brave Browser on my W11 it fails. I do have a dynamic IP adress since my ISP does not provide any Static IP. Could that be the cause for me not being able to log in?

Or is it something else causing an issue for me that prevents me from accessing my OPNSense?

Edit: I did setup my OPNSense on Virtualbox using this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6RxNR7H2oE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6RxNR7H2oE) youtube tutorial.
