Title: Lower upload on 2.5 Gbit NIC
Post by: lama18 on September 09, 2024, 10:47:31 AM
Hi,

I have 2500/1000 Mbit from my ISP, I have a complete 2.5 Gbit network, but during the control measurement I reach approx. 2 Gbit download, but approx. 400 Mbit upload. When I tried tunables and other advice from the forum, I did not achieve any change, until finally I tried to change the port speed to 1 Gbit and suddenly I was able to measure approx. 900 Mbit upload.

That is in the case of setting the network to 2.5 Gbit, I can achieve a full download, but approx. half upload.

I always achieve 2.5 Gbit down/up within the LAN.

Any advice or put up with it?

Device MINI PC INTEL N100 4x i226-V 2.5G + 8 GB RAM, 128 GB NVMe.

That sounds like a clear indication of buffer bloat. That partly depends on your ONT equipment - some ONTs have very small buffers such that when you feed them more that they can chew, they drop packets.

You could try adding a traffic shaper (https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/shaping.html) for outgoing data.
