Title: Newb Question on DNS
Post by: someone on June 23, 2024, 06:52:35 PM
How do I see the main DNS server I am using
Isnt there one main server which does the lookups, and also queries the other name servers
if it doesnt have the info
Thanks in advance
PS
The reason I am asking is severe router hyjacking on my ISP IP range
They destroyed my ISP router, changing certs, MITM attacks, etc
I thought there might be a way to monitor this in opnsense
I think a DNS ip can be set, havnt got that far yet
Would like to monitor the bad guys
Which probably goes thru TORS, multiple servers, etc

Type ipconfig /all if you are using a Windows PC. The nameserver configured is the one you are using. Probably unbound on your OPNsense.

Now if the question is "which nameserver does OPNsense use?" - its own, hopefully. Name resolution does not need any statically configured centrally managed server.

I explained how it works here: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=24783.msg118859#msg118859

Thanks
I am leaning toward one of the static options
And use Dig to query occasionally
To make sure opnsense hasnt been hyjacked
so far its doing great catching all the hackers, probably spoofed IP's
An ISP router would have been destroyed by now
