Title: Restore from XML File
Post by: spetrillo on June 23, 2024, 03:39:03 AM
Hello all,

My current physical OPNsense firewall was built with a ZFS file system. I have deployed a virtual firewall with a UFS file system and was going to just restore my latest XML backup file onto it. Any issue in doing this, considering I am going from ZFS to UFS? Is there anything in the XML file that calls out ZFS and I should not restore?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Disconnect the VM from the LAN in the hypervisor and restore the XML (so as to avoid an IP conflict). You'll likely need a virtual client with a browser in the same VLAN to restore from backup.

It may be quicker to shut down your physical firewall and test the virtual, but that involves down time.
