I just installed the latest (24.1.8) of opnsense in a Proxmox VM with the CPU set to Host for the VM. My host's CPU is an i3-10100. So I tried "None/ACPI" and "Intel" in the Thermal Sensors setting under Miscellaneous to no avail. Any thoughts?
CPU temperature is not available in a VM. You need to monitor that in Proxmox.
when you set the VM cp to "host", you are not "passing through" the cpu but the attributes of its architecure and extensions. Hardware attributes like temperature aren't. Those are available only to the host and therefore in Proxmox as Patrick says.
Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for confirming!
Does this mean that I also don't need to enable PowerD in the opnsense settings?
