Title: Zabbix Proxy on OPNsense
Post by: spetrillo on April 10, 2024, 06:15:08 PM
Hello all,

I am currently running the Zabbix proxy on my remote OPNsense firewall, so I have one device communicating over the WAN to my main Zabbix server. I am having issues getting devices to talk to the proxy. I have a remote Linux server that I setup to point to the proxy. When this is running I never see the Linux server come live in the Zabbix console and I am seeing error messages in the proxy log:

2024-04-10T11:21:53       23567   Zabbix agent item "net.if.discovery" on host "app1test.rics.prod" failed: another network error, wait for 15 seconds
2024-04-10T11:21:38       23567   Zabbix agent item "vfs.dev.discovery" on host "app1test.rics.prod" failed: another network error, wait for 15 seconds
2024-04-10T11:21:23       21608   Zabbix agent item "agent.ping" on host "app1test.rics.prod" failed: first network error, wait for 15 seconds

What is really weird is if I re-configure the Zabbix agent on the Linux server, to communicate directly to the Zabbix server, it works just fine. I literally just change the passive IP and away I go. This sort of tells me that something between the Linux server and proxy is not right. I have pinged the FQDN of the Linux server from the  Interfaces/Diagnostics/Ping of OPNsense with no issue. I have also port test from the Interfaces/Diagnostics/Port Probe of OPNsense with no issue. I have no clue what is causing the lack of communication between the Linux server and the Zabbix proxy.

Has anyone run into this using the Zabbix proxy on OPNsense? I am running 6.4.13 all around(Zabbix server, Proxy, Linux agent).

Thanks,
Steve

Yes...all my proxies are setup as Active and the flow works. Are you having issues? What part breaks in your environment?
