Title: Setup IPv6 only on the LAN (for matter devices)
Post by: Trevo525 on March 22, 2024, 09:15:09 PM
Would it be possible to setup DHCP for ipv6 for matter devices? I don't believe my ISP offers IPv6, but I'd like to be able to setup matter devices.

OPNsense 24.1.3_1-amd64
FreeBSD 13.2-RELEASE-p10
OpenSSL 3.0.13

Enable DHCPv6 + Router Advertisement under services. Done ;) (they don't need IPv6 to WAN)

I thought it would be that easy. But, I don't see that DHCPv6 under services except for "ISC DHCPv6" and I don't see a way to enable it. I also don't see an option called Router Advertisement.

I did a google search and found this forum post (https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=28802.0) which says I need to setup the interface to a track interface. I read more about that here (https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/ipv6.html) and am not really sure which interface would be right for just a local network. It seems kind of crazy to me that IPv4 only has Static and Dynamic that I ever heard of. Now, there are all these options and it seems like they all want a WAN address to base it off of. Any advice?

Your LAN Interface needs a static IPV6 address. Tracking is only ,,required" (not really) with native ipv6 wan.

After setting up a IPv6, the submenu of the dhcpv6 will change.

I'm a little embarrassed. I had tried all of that but I never thought to make a rule to allow the traffic.. On a firewall...
