Title: About Business License
Post by: mdantasf on February 15, 2024, 04:50:53 AM
Hello guys,

We purchased the OPNsense Business license. And I had some doubts.

1. I had installed the community (production) version number 24.1 but I had to downgrade to the business version number 23.10 to apply the purchased license. Is this procedure correct?

2. What is the support page for us to open a ticket when registering the license? I didn't find this on the order page.

3. What is the actual advantage of acquiring this license?

Regards,

Hi,

Quote1. I had installed the community (production) version number 24.1 but I had to downgrade to the business version number 23.10 to apply the purchased license. Is this procedure correct?

Yes, as the business edition is based on 23.7, we can't offer an automatic upgrade from that path.

Quote2. What is the support page for us to open a ticket when registering the license? I didn't find this on the order page.

There's no separate page, issues may also be reported on GitHub. Commercial support, when needed, is offered separately.

3. What is the actual advantage of acquiring this license?

A longer test cycle for example, as our main strategy is "community first". Some additional features (like central management) and different external testing rounds (see also https://docs.opnsense.org/be.html). And you obviously help fund the community development as well.

Best regards,

I am stuck with the same issue. I didnt see any obvious warnings anywhere when I purchased the licenses.

I am using Protectli boxes. Did anyone find a way to roll back to the Business Version supported version from 23.4?

Guys, you can download the latest business image for that downgrade purpose:

https://opnsense-update.deciso.com/

It's also the reason why we ship the Deciso devices with opnsense-business preinstalled so you never run into the the waiting period between the new community and the new business edition.

What exactly isn't working? Since you have a business license, why aren't you contacting support directly? If you did contact support, and they haven't responded, that's a different issue altogether.

Kind of related... I just bought the business license and was wondering if we are still on track for 24.x business near the end of this month? I've been testing with 24.x community version on test hardware, but getting near time to build the production hardware and want to go straight to 24.x business.

Working on Windows 11 deployment right now, then need to configure some new network switches for an expansion on campus, but hoping to get to firewall work in the next week or so.

We're still on track,  the release should be available on the 30th of April.

I am in a similar situation, I have finished assembling a couple of boxes for opnsense, and I am in the process of acquiring a couple of licenses in the business version, but the process is slow on the part of Deciso I am still waiting for a response when I can buy the licenses.

Now that I'm seeing this message, I don't know whether to wait for version 24

If you requested additional information and didn't hear back yet, best drop another mail. Ordering licenses can't be very slow, the shopping/delivery process is fully automated on our end (https://shop.opnsense.com/product/opnsense-business-edition/)

My license key was less than an hour and we are in the USA so there are some conversions that needed to be done.

Got an email that an order was placed, a few minutes later got an email that the order was accepted, and then some time later the key was emailed but the whole process was under an hour during their after work hours so the system must be working.

AFAIK the 23.7 license key will also work for 24.x so there is no need to wait. I just got an additional license checked out and it took 1 minute. Now on 23.7.x business I do not expect the key to die when 24.x business releases.

The license key is for mirror access so you can get the latest updates and images and business plugins.

I would hope it doesn't stop working, they sell (and I bought) a 3 year license, what is that 3 major versions and 3 more partial versions worth of time?

As I said the 3 year subscription expires exactly 3 years after the initial purchase allowing you to access the update server to get all the updates (6 major versions to be exact), images for each major version and the business plugins. You can even move to a different hardware during that time no problem.

Well, I have been waiting for more than a week for them to send me the payment method, my last email was on Monday with Robert of  Deciso, and today I am still waiting.

Maybe an email got lost somewhere, can you send a mail to support at opnsense dot com so I can check internally. Sending a payment link after you placed an order can't be an issue.

I also sent you the conversation with the person I was talking to on behalf of the decision team.
