Title: move opnsense to a new server VM
Post by: dihaji on February 09, 2024, 05:43:14 PM
Hello everyone ,

I have opnsense server installed on a physical server (version 19.7.10), I would like to migrate it to a VM (VMware vSphere 7), so I exported the config.xml file on the old server.

I installed a new version of opnsense 23.7 on VMware, I imported the config.xml file, after the new opnsense does not work , it is not available , I tried to modify the names of the network cards in the xml file, but in vain, does not work when I imported config.xml into the new seeveur VM,

thank you for your help

For each interface,  you would  either have to know the new name of the interface,  and do a search and replace in the config.

Also what seems to help, is for every interface,  Check : Prevent Interface Removal. That way when you migrate, a prompt on the console will allow you to remap the interfaces to the new underlying device
