Title: opnsense shutdown by front power button pc's
Post by: Luca72 on December 11, 2023, 11:46:02 AM
good morning, I'm inexperienced, to do experiments at home, I'm about to buy a refurbished PC from Amazon just for opnsense.
Since I intend to place it without a monitor, keyboard, mouse or anything else, just the power cable and network, I wanted to ask, when I'm not using it, is it possible to turn it off and on from the power button? does it provide a button controlled shutdown like windows? or do you necessarily have to connect and do some kind of shutdown procedure?....it would be very convenient if it stopped just by pressing the button.

thanks

If you press the power button for a short time, it will probably shutdown cleanly and power off.

If your system has a PC speaker it will also play a funny beep sequence to indicate the shutdown. Similar to the one when the system has fully booted up.  :D

Actually the power button does not reflect with a shutdown on my vm, and neither does ctrl-alt-delete.

Proxmox has been causing unsynced reboots I just noticed. Can do it via web GUI and SSH.

I wouldn't expect the power button on a host server to trigger the VM unless there is a specific tool to allow it. Not familiar with Proxmox so no idea.
