Title: Unable to delete alias because of unfindable use in rule
Post by: fkorpershoek on December 10, 2023, 03:25:59 PM
Hi,

Not sure where to post this, so anyway:

Today I tried to delete an unused alias, but got a message that the alias was being used by
[filter.rule.23/source.address] Beheer to WAN Address

I couldn't find any rule containing this reference.

Finally i tried to modify the url to edit a rule and used that rule number.
https://a.a.a.a/firewall_rules_edit.php?if=FloatingRules&id=23

That seemed to be the right rule according to the description. It was a disabled rule on interface Loopback, which wasn't visible the regular way. Not under Floating, nor under Loopback.

I switched the rule to enabled: it showed up under Loopback. Switch back to disabled: still visible under Loopback.
I'm not sure what made this leftover from a couple of years ago buried so deep. Fortunately I was able to delete this rule at this point.

That makes me think: are there more rules buried under water? How could be possibly check that?
And another thing: A link from the delete alias error message to the rule would have saved me scratching my head ;-)

Regards,
Frank
