Hello,
I use the service ddclient 1.17 version then I have a profile to update my dns hostname. but always shows the below messages.
2023-11-28T10:06:51 Notice ddclient WARNING: Could not determine an IP for ....
2023-11-28T10:06:51 Notice ddclient WARNING: found neither IPv4 nor IPv6 address
2023-11-28T10:06:51 Notice ddclient WARNING: '' is not a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address
I have bellow settings.
Service no-ip
username .....
password .....
check ip method interface
interface to monitor wan
check ip timout 10
force ssl tick
Again, I know from other thread (others won't) that your WAN interface has an internal IP, probably due to a upstream router/modem.
In this case you must not use "interface" as method. Use any other.

I changed a lot of other protocols in section check ip method. It doesn't work
Ok... now i remember this: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=37211.msg182268#msg182268
Please screenshots from your gateways and routing table.
Probably the traffic is routed over VPN issueing the same error message.

ok
Ok, there are some other issues... Your VPN GW is down. Should be in normal (up) condition for further testing.
I don't understand which is the meaning of this forum. Is this forum to help old opnsense users the newbie like me? :-[ :-[
I format 2 times then I installed the opnsesne from scratch. The first thing was to installed os-ddclient. ddclient cannot update noip service. It show below messages
Please, is anybody here that solved this error? Am unique person here that I have this problem? Do you use other plugn to update dynamic dns?
Pleaase any help will be welcoming
Not being funny but you have had a lot of help. And you seem to not use some courtesy sometimes. For instance on this https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=37186.15 you asked a question. One was asked back to understand your requirement and never answered, like you just abandoned the thread without care when people were trying to understand your requirement.
Be patient and have some thread hygiene please.

when was I not courtesy? I am very sorry if happen, but I would like to know when happened.
So, do you know how it solves this problem? Do you want any more information?
Thank you for responding.
please re-read tiermutter's inputs. That's what will help you solve it.
> 2023-11-28T10:06:51 Notice ddclient WARNING: Could not determine an IP for ....
could not determine an ip for what? Is it an interface name there or is that the actual log?
> 2023-11-28T10:06:51 Notice ddclient WARNING: found neither IPv4 nor IPv6 address
>2023-11-28T10:06:51 Notice ddclient WARNING: '' is not a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address
The message is clear, ddclient can't find an ip address and tiermutter has told you that from previous interactions your wan is a private ip and you need to have the vpn up in your particular setup for further testing.
The log message is clear despite all your efforts to mask your information all along on multiple posts/threads. Maybe you're very "security conscious" but I'm not sure what you are trying to do with so much apparent cloak and dagger stuff, wanting to break encryption and tunnel connections. It's all very strange to me.

So would you like to start from beginning? Please tell me what information you want to upload then tell me what do you want to do.
As I said, I try ddclient without vpn with no luck. Please tell me what do want to do for you.
Thank you
IF I PUT BELOW TWO LINES
use=if, if=igb2
use=web, web=freemyip.com/checkip
THEN WORKS, BUT EVERY BOOT ERASE THESE LINES. I USE NOIP.
IS THERE ALTERNATIVE TO DDCLIENT OR ALTERNATIVE TO NOIP?
is there free dynamic dns service that works with opnsense?
Thank you
As I said If I put inside /usr/local/etc/ddclient.conf
theese two lines
use=if, if=igb2
use=web, web=freemyip.com/checkip
then works fine
The problem is OPNsense gui cuts this line and change ddclient.conf file to
syslog=yes # log update msgs to syslog
pid=/var/run/ddclient.pid # record PID in file.
verbose=yes
usev4=ifv4, ifv4=igb2, \
protocol=noip, \
login=.....@... \
password=.....
hostname.dynamic....
How to solve that?
I noticed that I had the same problem with no-ip but now it works:
Account settings:
Service: noip
username: my-email
pass: noip pass
hostname: FQDN1, FQDN2
Check ip method: Interface[ipv4]
Interface to monitor: wan
check ip timeout: 10
Force SSL: ticked
General Settings:
Enable: ticked
Interval: 300
Backend: native (with ddclient fails miserably)
