I need the option too.
Have you found anything in the meantime other than adjusting the other partner?

Use "advanced mode"?

adding

data-ciphers aes-256-gcm;
or
data-ciphers aes-128-gcm;

to what posted above will force it unless the server does it.

And these overrides are already deprecated in OpenVPN 2.6.
