Title: Opnsense not booting. Filesystem dirty
Post by: rick477 on July 02, 2023, 12:19:59 PM
My Opnsense froze during an update and does not boot properly since.

Fsck in read only shows dirty filesystem, but cannot repair due to expansion failing, see screenshot

Any help appreciated, I am at slightly above beginner level. Thank you for your consideration(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230702/e6c28e0d977ab951d4533637b58c12d8.jpg)

Maybe revert back to a older version?

https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/opnsense_tools.html

Have you try google around to see if you can find anything what to do when you getting this type of error?

Have you back up your configuration? If everything feels maybe the only thing left is to do a clean install.

I have googled, yes. I have backups, yes

I tried resetting to factory defaults by moving config.xml to config.bak but this does not fix the filesystem error

Maybe there's still a way to fix the filesystem. If not, I'll format and reinstall

How about the link and any off the command?

I would definitely just do a clean install since you have backups.

Also, did you set up SMART testing?  If you're able to, you probably should install windows or toss the drive into a windows machine and then run the manufacturers utility on it.  That will help evaluate the health and let you update to the latest firmware.

Took a few days to find time. Installed fresh and loaded backup.

System now works as expected. Got stuck during search for updates again, remembered I read somewhere to change setting to prefer ipv4 over ipv6. This resolved the updating problem as well

Thanks for your support
