Title: VPN works, but no access to Shares
Post by: gpeter73 on May 24, 2023, 02:15:19 PM
Hi,
I had a working access to the company network with OPNSense and OpenVPN for 2 years. Since I only use it sporadically, I didn't notice which update made it stop working. Ping, http and RDP/SSH work, but I can't access Windows or Samba Shares.
So I set up the VPN server again and everything works except for the shares. Since there are also systems without firewalls, I also exclude them.
Can anyone give me a advice?!

Check that there are overlapping SMB versions. Some later Samba and Windows servers won't allow SMB v1 clients.

If I use the same Client (Windows 11) direkt in my LAN I can access any Shares

Do you connect to SMB using IP address or hostname?

Tried both ways, seems something blocks the port. But there is no Firewall involved

Run a packet trace on both ends to dig a bit deeper. OPNsense has it built in, for Windows use Wireshark
