Title: Statc IP
Post by: hat22 on May 20, 2023, 03:09:53 AM
Hi, I'm a bit of a noob and would really appreciate some help understanding my issue.

Basically, if I set a static IP in one of my network PCs, it doesn't show up in OPNSense with the IP address I gave it.

It instead shows up under services, DHCPv4, Leases with what looks like a DHCP assigned address that's not what I gave it in the PC iteself.

Can anyone explian why this is?

Thank you, Graham

Opnsense DHCPv4-leases shows the assigned addresses from DHCP. if you look to the right of that lease you should see a [ + ] , if you click on that you can make the lease static and configure it with an ip you like etc.

Thank you very much for that RamSense. Is this the best practice way of doing static IPs?

In the past, I've always set static IPs in the actual computer in my network.

Well I think it depends on what you prefer. I like to handle the static ip's on opnsene. By doing so I can controll all devices at one location / at opnsense, instead of having to go over to every device for being able to make changes.

Cool, thanks for explaining. I'll do that from now on.

But, for the one or two devices it's difficult to do that for, do you know where you would be able to view those static ips in opnsense?

Cheers, Graham

opnsense -> services -> DHCPc4 -> leases
