Title: Virtual IP - Where does it appear?
Post by: goldrunner on May 09, 2023, 11:13:08 AM
After adding Virtual IP to an interface at Interfaces > Virtual IPs > Settings > + I would expect to see it in the dashboard, but nope - Why?

But there is no virtual IP widget? ;)

Maybe the long answer is that "virtual IPs" are a sort of a plugin-based facility to add other addresses for additional use away from the main ones to the interfaces. As such they don't have the high exposure that normal interface configuration has, even though you can see the VIPs in the interfaces overview for example.

If we had to reinvent this feature we would probably stuff the alias addresses into the main interface configuration for easier iteration and exposure... but it's likely going to stay how it is for a number of years.

So which mode to assign an additional IPv6 address to an interface? IP alias? Other?

For normal additional addresses IP (both IPv4 or IPv6) alias is correct, yep.
