Title: Question: Coincidence that OPNSense and PFsense is on the same version number?
Post by: Supermule on April 27, 2023, 03:36:50 PM
Both running 23.x and that got me curious.

Is it because of the base OS or just coincidence??

23 being the year, obviously? In the case of OpnSense, it is followed by the month for the main version.

I see many starting to use the YYYY.MM.# or similar format these days for software release identification. It alleviates the need to investigate a version number to determine its release date which can be annoying. In fact, we moved to this formatting in my company last year.
