Title: Using OPNsense in a domain
Post by: sbrundell on April 07, 2023, 08:18:01 PM
I have migrated from pfsense to opnsense and have been trying to set this up to work in my small home domain

However I cant get the dhcp server to set the dns servers to those in my home network ie 192.168.xxx.xx1 and 192.168.xxx.xx2, it always assigns the opnsense gateway as the dns server

I have tried disabling unbound and the correct dns servers are listed in the config page for DHCP

Could anyone tell me what elementary mistake I must be making??

I have selected the do not use local dns service as a nameserver for this system box as well

What DNS servers do you have at System: Settings: General...?

It could be related to this issue (https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/5942), or not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you have a domain environment (I presume ADDS), perhaps you could use M$ DHCP...?

You might consider modifying the topic title to something like DHCP ignores custom DNS servers to get more responses.

Screenshots of your DHCP settings and the interface settings (I assume LAN) would help greatly.
