USB NIC for LAN? Not normal, because unreliable like that.
Cheers,

Yes, how did you know? :o
"ue0" --> USB interface. Not really supported and definitely not recommended.
If this is a small system you cannot (or do not want to) modify you could think of buying a small affordable managed switch like the ones from Ubiquiti and use VLANs over the single Intel interface that box seems to have.

This is just one of the many reasons why you should never ever use USB LAN. Even if it didnt cause those up/down issues you should still replace that with a nice Intel NIC.
Thanks all, I'm running an HP Prodesk G1 mini, so no way to add second nic, i'll have to live with I guess.
A "TP-Link TL-SG105E 5-Ports Gigabit Easy Smart Managed Netzwerk Switch" is ~ 20€.
Connect with one port to your HP system - voila, 4 port firewall.
Any managed switch that supports VLANs will do.
Thanks just ordered a TL-SG108E, looks like I gotta learn about VLANs now ;D
Got this working today, found this handy guide

May be of use to others one day, thanks for VLAN tip pmhausen :)
