Thought i would share part 1 of my over powerfull Xeon-D OPNsense firewall :). Yes its about 200x over powered but thats the way i always build my units, PLUS i had the motherboard kicking around :)
Motherboard is this https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=D1541D4U-2T8R#Specifications

Didn't notice till now about the audio being left channel only, something happened to my external recorder :(
Nice specs. Looks something like my next firewall :-)
Interested to see how the performance throughput is with 10Gbps.
it should be VERy good ! When i was bench testing it, I couldn't get the cpu to go over 4% lol. Its way to power full BUT thats what i like..
Xeon D rocks. I have a couple of Supermicro Atom and Xeon D systems and they are rock solid and well performing. The only thing one could say is that they are pretty expensive compared to some Ryzen or similar offers. I also like to err on the side of performance and stability. All ECC, all ZFS ... here.

2-3 years ago the DREAM motherboard i wanted with 41gig and dual SFP+ ports was like 750$ for the board, now they are like 1600-2k Canadian :( I love supermicro stuff, the 2 firewalls i'm running right now both have the Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU C3558 @ 2.20GHz (4 cores, 4 threads) cpu's Love them BUT no SFP+ ports..
Now to dive deep into OPNsense and learn lots more !! Coming from Untangle to this :)
