Title: Trying to set TrueNAS as DNS server
Post by: LiquidAurum on November 28, 2022, 10:07:09 pm
I just setup Traefik on my TrueNAS Scale to forward traffic to my apps. I set my opnsense appliance DNS server to the TrueNAS box, but I can't get my devices to connect to the apps using the domain name at all. I've flushed DNS, restarted opnsense, updated and a bunch of other stuff.

When I manually set a windows device DNS to point to the treunas box then it works just fine but setting it from the opnsense doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

TrueNAS SCALE does not provide a DNS server - did you install a particular app for that? Traefik provides only HTTP and HTTPS ...

Yes I installed blocky. And when I manually set DNS server on my windows device pointing to truenas then it's able to resolve the app just fine. But I don't want to have to set all the devices on my network manually.

More information please. Your apps, how do they get addressed, by appname.local or what? where is the domain being resolved. It could be an actual domain you have registered publicly, we can't assume.
Right now is only a high level description of a problem. No details of setups.

I got it working, I had to ipconfig /renew on my devices
