Title: Problem with modem Quectel 4G
Post by: banzai30 on August 23, 2022, 12:47:21 PM
Hi everyone,

We use Quectel EC25-EUX in our router on OPNSense.
Our teams have a big problem. When our customers have a power outage in the office so the router is stopped and when he restart, the LTE interface cannot get ip address so can't use router.
We need to restart the router on the web interface or in ssh.

If they restart by unplug the power, same problem.

Thanks!

I never used Quectel modem, but Sierra Wireless and had similiar issues getting the link up again after reboot or link-loss. For my case there was an AT command which helped most of the time getting the link up quicker when used as init string: at!greset (without "at" in webUI).
Also &F0E1Q0 +CMEE=2 can help as the OPNsense docs states, but I wonder what this command should do, as this is mostly for logging purposes, except "&F".

What does the logs print when not getting an IP? It will be interesting to know in which stage the problem occurs, is it really in IPCP stage where the IP is assigned, or fails it in an earlier stage?

However, now I use an external LTE modem, with the internal one I spent too much time with troubleshooting...

Thanks for this informations.
We work in telecom and need to provide a solution all in one to our customers but it's true we lose too much time debugging all problems.
For my Quectel EC25, there isn't information, no init string to provide at start so i think we will search an alternative opnsense
