Title: DHCP different on one interface
Post by: Mettadas on August 17, 2022, 07:42:42 PM
Hi folks.  I'm a new OPNsense user setting up a DEC840.  When I create an interface on a gig ethernet port, I can then go to services/dhcp and setup dhcp for that interface.  But having created an interface on an SFP port plugged into a switch, that interface is not listed under services/DHCP.  Instead, there are some DHCP options on the interface screen.  Those options are not on the same screen for other interfaces.

What is the reason for this difference?

It means you configured that interface to use DHCP, which is typical in WAN interfaces behind cable modems.  If you want to configure it as a lan interface, change the IPv4 Configuration Type to Static.  Set the IPv4 Adress and then you should have an option for DHCP, for that interface.

That was it.  Thank you!
