Title: Can't download torrents
Post by: Darkfella on August 13, 2022, 08:55:19 AM
Hello, i've deployed a device with OPNSense installed on it a few days ago and im still in the process of learning about all the settings and such and lots of new information for me about networking. One issue im having at hand tho is that im not able to start downloading torrents, neither on my PC or my media server. Do i need to port forward qbittorrent so it can access the internet or am i missing something else ? Thanks in advance .

Likely uses UPnP for peering back with others.  UPnP is NOT enabled by default.

You have 2 choices; both have security implications:

1. Download the UPnP Package for OPNsense and try that
2. Specify the specific port ranges qbittorrent requires to function.  I suggest checking their support pages.

He might not know how to install OPNSense Plugins.  Install it under "System: Firmware: Plugins: os-upnp", then go to "Services: Universal Plug and Play: Settings" to enable it.

I'm trying to do the same thing which worked successfully with a much older firmware (at least 2yrs old) I was running with nothing to setup other than install the uPnP plugin.  I have updated the current 22.7.10 firmware on a brand new install and downloads never start on the torrent end.  It's just stuck on downloading metadata for qBittorrent.

Not sure if it was the torrent that was causing issues but I simplified everything and downloaded a new torrent and it's working fine now.
