Title: APC SmartUPS via USB (NUT + USBHID) not working
Post by: felixthecat on May 29, 2022, 09:45:57 AM
Hi,

we've recently aquired a UPS for the Network Rack and are attemping to set it up with OPNsense.

The Model of UPS is:
APC SMTL1000RM2UC

It is connected via USB and visible when checking with "usbconfig" in the Shell.

Unfortunately it seems there is either an issue with the NUT implementation or the USBHID Driver.
We've tried rebooting, changing settings and re-plugging the USB-Cable to no avail.

This is our current Configuration under Services -> NUT -> Configuration -> General Settings:
Enable NUT: Checked
Service Mode: standalone
Name: networkrack
Listen Address: 127.0.0.1, ::1

And under UPS Type -> USBHID:
Enable: Checked
Extra Arguments: port=auto

The Backend Log spits out an Error saying that the upsc command returned a non-zero exit status 1.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to add that I've found a few other threads with simular issues, but none of them included a solution on getting USBHID working directly on OPNsense after this issue.

I'd really appreciate any kind of input on this issue.
Even if somebody can just share their own setup if using USBHID.

With 22.1.9 via CLI

pkg install os-apcupsd-devel
