Title: Another gigabit capable query ( i5-8250U)
Post by: msn_07 on April 27, 2022, 11:20:50 AM
Hey all,

Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Intel Kaby Lake R i5-8250U and if it's able to route at full gigabit (no IPS etc)

Coming from an ap2 quad core 1ghz board which is limiting me to arouns 500mbit

Thanks in advance!

can not really help, never measured my throughput. But i want to point out to not underestimate decent network nic's.

I just put together a I5-4590 in an old SFF HP desktop, and did some testing with iperf3 and could route at 1g speeds (all i had to test with) between VLAN's, and the 350mbs internet down works fine.  This is using a knock-off Intel I350-T2 card.

I am not running any IPS or SSL or other hard processes, but when running 1g between VLAN's I was seeing very light CPU usage (if I recall < 20%), I'm guessing it could do a lot more with faster nic's.
