Title: [SOLVED] OPNsense upgrade from 21.7.3 to 21.7.7 hanging
Post by: Colani1200 on January 17, 2022, 10:57:55 PM
I scheduled an upgrade from 21.7.3 to 21.7.7 and it is hanging at "Updating OPNsense repository catalogue...". In fact the "updates" tab in the GUI shows this twice:
***GOT REQUEST TO UPDATE***
Updating OPNsense repository catalogue...
OPNsense repository is up to date.
All repositories are up to date.
Updating OPNsense repository catalogue...

Any idea how to solve this? I don't want to risk bricking the box.

It's not preparing to brick.. it can't fetch the packages repository database :)

Are you able to run a connectivity audit from the firmware status page? Does the same stall happen there as well? Might make sense to try a different mirror first.

The box miraculously completed the upgrade at 0:00. Maybe because some services got restarted then?!

I had trouble after enabled "NetFlow" on some OPNsense firewalls.

Upgrading these became a nightmare, taking forever and not progressing. Once I figured out that NetFlow was somehow interrring with the upgrades, taking too long to stop and/or backing up the NetFlow database, I disabled and turned off NetFlow.

That still didn't fix it.

In the end, I exported, factory reset, imported and now these "problem" firewalls are running great.

I wonder, do you have NetFlow enabled?

Netflow can have implications on system stop / start (and you can disable the backup jobs for it if need be) but not during fetching of updates.
