Title: Configuring a shared folder on the Opnsense device
Post by: Visnor on December 22, 2021, 11:03:10 AM
Hi, new user here with limited experience and knowledge so please bear with me.

Have Opnsense running on Protectli 4B so far everything I wanted I found in the forums here or elsewhere. Except one thing: Is there a way to use the storage space available in the device as a shared folder? if so, how can this be configured?

You could try setting up NFS on OPNsense. Recent versions of Windows are able to mount NFS shares.

Out of the box, you can store files on OPNsense through tools like WinSCP.

System, Settings, Secure Shell, Enable Secure Shell

But I don't think a Firewall is a good system to run a Network Share on it.

I agree that running file shares on your firewall isn't a great idea. But for sake of discussion, I suppose you could run ProxMox on the Protectli, then virtualize your OPNsense instance, and create another VM for a file share distro like Open Media Vault, etc. Seems it would work in theory though I don't know how performance would be.
