Title: Problem with NVMe installation
Post by: teloisfinis on December 16, 2021, 12:02:27 AM
Good morning,

Unfortunately, I have a problem with the installation of Opnsense. I have a Supermicro server (AS-1014S-WTRT) with a 1TB NVMe from Kioxia (KCM6XRUL960G).

Unfortunately, the hard disk is not recognized by the installer. As a test, I installed Ubuntu Server, which worked without issues.

I tried the image: AMD64 VGA latest version.

Do you guys have any ideas?
I am happy about any help!

Confirm that the disk controller is supported: https://www.freebsd.org/releases/12.1R/hardware/

There are PCIe adapters that support NVMe. TrueNAS works with quite a few, and it is also based on FreeBSD.

You also could run a hypervisor to abstract the controller. I run OPNsense on VMware ESXi.

It will likely work with 22.1-RC1 based on the newer FreeBSD 13, but need to wait till January...
