Title: ICMP issue Can't ping my LAN IP address from my network
Post by: Tough-Grass-3998 on September 14, 2021, 04:22:02 PM
Hi,
I've just spun up a server with this version   OPNsense 21.7.1-amd64
FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE-p19-HBSD

I can ping my monitoring server just fine from the appliance itself but I can't ping the appliance from my monitoring box.....has anybody experienced this before...is there a way to enable ICMP to my LAN interface?

any help gratefully received

Have you added a firewall rule that allows icmp to the firewall?
If not, that's probably it.

hi thanks for that...I've successfully got it to reply to ICMP requests  , but when hooking it up to my monitoring solution..it sends the replies fine to the first few  ICMP packets then it stops sending them..is there a way I can make it keep replying to ICMP packets indefinitely ?

Just a note to say it's tough to diagnose this without more information about your network and monitoring solution.  I can ping opnsense all day long and never have it fail.  I'd start looking at the live log in the firewall to see if it's blocked there, if not, you might need to fire up wireshark and see what's going on.  It could be something dealing with the state table but on a local network, that seems odd.
