Title: How can I start OPNSense? It seems like something is very wrong.
Post by: BaruchSpinoza on September 14, 2021, 04:54:07 AM
It keeps on spamming about my Logitech mouse disconnecting and connecting OR it totally freezes when it I believe detects my NIC card. I have some pictures here:

I'm trying to find information on how to make my own router using OPNSense, but it's so difficult to find that. Please help, thank you.

Please start with describing your hardware. I think you can safely disconnect the mouse as you will not be able to use it since we don't have a desktop environment.

Looks like this system is easily over 10 years old? Question is if the NIC hang is caused by broken hardware or something in igb/em driver that was changed over the years.

Yes, this is a PC using my old PC parts. However, I have a 5600G CPU & new motherboard for it on the way -- already have 48GB of DDR4 so I'm going to take about 16GB off of mine, the CPU comes in about a week from now for my new build that will be alongside my main PC that I'm using right now which has an 8700k. Once I learn how to make this router, that's all I'll use this for -- eventually though I'll need to learn how to use Qubes so that I can use the extra PC for more than just a router. I'm going to be using the integrated graphics here so hopefully that's fine. I figure since it's such an up to date CPU that it should be compatible with everything.

The one thing that I'm also not confident about is this NIC card -- I bought it used on ebay as suggested by some forum post for compatible hardware. I saw that the new NIC cards were $80 and I couldn't find any confirmation as to whether they're compatible, so I went with the used $20 cards they told me about. Can you link me to a new NIC card on amazon?
