Title: Changing IPv6 settings from DHCP to Static
Post by: walkerx on March 10, 2021, 05:55:40 PM
Hi,

I currently have all my ipv6 settings set to dhcp, what is the best way to switch this to static as i'm hoping doing this resolves the issues with dpinger not restarting for a period of time after the connection dropped and the gateways saying no valid ipv6 addresses

i've got ipv6 through isp (zen)

This does not directly answer your question, but I've set up a monit process to restart dpinger on the IPv6 gateway when it goes down. Working fine (albeit it would be better if the underlying issue could be fixed).

It won't stop it, it's a PPPoE link/dpinger restart issue. I am on static and occasionally get the same thing, as Greelan said, use the dpinger restart method. I created a PPPoE server and tried to find the root cause of this issue, I was never able to make Opnsense fail no matter how many times I flapped the pppoe link so it's probably unlikely to ever get fixes as reproducing it on demand is nigh impossible.

It is pretty consistent for me on DHCPv6 - essentially every time IPv6 goes down on the WAN on my end or the ISP end

:)  I had to work out how use Mikrotik OS to get a PPPoE server running as Opnsense no longer has a PPPoE server plugin, tried everything apart from putting it in a bucket of water to make it fail, nada.
