I am a completely new user.
Today I downloaded and flashed OPNsense-21.1-OpenSSL-serial-amd64.img onto a 32GB USB thumb drive.
Originally I tried flashing it with Rufas but when booting I ran into an issue where the system displays the message "Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ufs/OPNsense_Install [ro,noatime]..." with nothing else being displayed after that, but a little a musical tune being played quite a bit later.
I looked thru this forum and could find the same error reported by others, and did try flashing with Win32DiskImager instead of Rufas, but got the same results.
From BIOS I have tried selecting to boot from "UEFI: USB, Partition 1" as well as USB - but got the same results either way.
I am connected via a usb keyboard into one usb port on the machine, and via an hdmi cable. It is a new machine.
Any suggestions on how to move forward would be very much appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
OK - I found my problem.
When I downloaded the original implementation package from opnsense I had picked 'Serial' as one of the download options - that choice based on a youtube video I had seen where that was done.
Turns out for my setup - involving a directly connected monitor and keyboard, I should have picked 'VGA'.
Once I redownloaded the implementation package and flashed it, it worked just fine. :)
