Title: Traffic graph on dashboard broken
Post by: plexus on March 01, 2021, 08:07:52 am
Hey there,

after a recent update of our opnsense to 21.1.2 we noticed a chage in the design of the traffic graph for the dashbaord. Unfortunalteley with this change the chronological assignment for the values seems to go wrong turning this graph infto modern art as you can see in the attached screenshot.

Thank you for any hints how to fix.

Greetings,
Plex

See if this patch fixes your problem with the traffic widget in OPNsense 21.1.2

@Gary7  Thanks. I've read the other thread and the bug report (https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/4750) which seems to be only about the traffic graph being blank in Firefox. Couldn't figure-out how to apply the patch so I decided to move to the current dev version (21.7.a_115-amd64) to see if there's any change. Answer is it's still the same i.e. widget is blank in Firefox and skewed/flickering in Chrome.

It's no big deal for me as I'm using OPNsense on my home network, so I'll stay on the dev version.

To apply the patch is very easy.
Login with root to the shell. You may want to be out of the GUI.
I have a serial connection to the console.
In the shell, just execute "opnsense-patch 8b9764fa86"
Then, login to the GUI and see if the traffic widget works better.

You’d probably also want to restart the webgui after applying the patch - configctl webgui restart

@Greelan @Gary7
Thanks guys. I've reverted to 21.1.2 Production, applied the patch and rebooted. The traffic graph now works correctly in Chrome (no shewing/flickering). See screen capture. It's still blank/empty in Firefox. Cheers.

I have only been using Chrome for the OPNsense GUI.
As an experiment, I finally used Firefox for the GUI.
For me, the traffic graph worked correctly for both Chrome and Firefox.
I did notice one detail: I only have 2 interfaces, LAN & WAN
On your traffic graph, it looks like you have 3 interfaces. Do you have a DMZ or VLANs, etc ?
I don't know if that's a factor or not concerning the traffic graph when using Firefox.

@Gary7
I have dual WAN and LAN showing. Disabling one of the WANs had same result.
Also have tried on three separate computers with Firefox installed and have enabled/disabled all Firefox addons (ad blockers etc). No change. Works fine with Chrome and Edge.

edit - Refreshing Lobby on two of my computers with Firefox will (approx) every third try result in the Traffic Graphic working. But it never works on the third computer. Problem is intermittent with Firefox.

I havent really worried about the graph not working but decided I would try it out the goodness of my heart. I also use firefox.

It wasnt working, so I applied patch and restarted web gui as mentioned above. Still does not work in firefox.
I have 3 interfaces, PPPOE, Wiregard, LAN.

If I click on the actual widget it takes me to a dedicated traffic screen, which does work. It just doesnt work on the main dashboard.

would be nice to have graph options from histogram, stacked, area and deviation styles...

Happened to reboot my box for something unrlated and noticed that when i logged in the first time the traffic widget worked but upon navigating away from the dashboard and back again it never worked after that again. Just posting in case that makes sense to anyone or there might be a reason it only works once then not again after a reboot.
