Title: OPNsense cuts off one client every second hour or so
Post by: guest26348 on November 06, 2020, 05:38:45 PM
Hi dear community,

I have been running OPNsense for a few months now but I have one issue that is driving me nuts. One client, Dell XPS 13 (2018) running Ubuntu 20.04, gets cut off every second hour:ish. It can still access other devices within my lan but not access internet or the firewall. We have like 10-12 devices at home and this is only happening to my XPS 13. So my setup is this:

1Gb/sec fiber via ethernet -> OPNsense, latest version, Intel NICSs -> Switch -> Devices like an Ubuntu Server 20.04, stationary computer with 20.04, AirPort Extreme and some Raspberry Pis. To the AirPort Extreme (only acting as AP) we have 1 MacBook Pro, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 2 Apple Watches, Dell XPS 13 and some smart home devices.

So what is happening is that every now and then - I loose internet on my XPS 13 while connected to wifi. First I think wifi issues - but nope, I can still connect to other devices within my LAN, so wifi is fine, but I cannot access the OPNsense FW at all. At the same time my wife is having video meetings on her MacBook Pro (also on the same wifi) without any issues at all.

So to summerize when this is happening, for maybe 1-2 minutes, then I can access internet and OPNsense FW again:

What I have tried:

*I am not a professional network engineer - I manage to setup OpenVPN, FW rules, etc but not on the same level as many on this forum.

Any pointers? I really want OPNsense to work for me - I really like interface and performance.

Big thanks in advance!

Some issue with OPNsense. Vanilla install with IC turned off. Some bug somewhere.

Installed OpenWRT and everything has worked flawless since then (exakt same hardware, network equipment, etc).
