Title: Firmware Flavour vs clean install (are settings retained?)
Post by: guest25283 on September 05, 2020, 02:49:00 PM
Hi all,

I am a few weeks en route with OPNsense, and I love it!
I noticed the possibility to change the firmware cryptography option under Firmware Settings.
Currently I set it to LibreSSL. My question would be; is this setting retained as part of a backup, and will a restore make sure it's put back to LibreSSL?

My question is particularly interesting in case of a clean install.. Do I need to change it from OpenSSL to LibreSSL after a clean install, upgrade to the most recent software, while ultimately restoring my config?

The settings are restored to LibreSSL, but I can't see any LibreSSL Images.

So you have to check for Updates after restore to get back to LibreSSL.

Thanks a lot for the quick and clear response :), this helps!

XeroX is correct. It's pretty straight forward to restore the config and chances are high there is a stable update out anyway so it will take you to the latest stable of the previously selected flavour.

If you upgrade before importing the config you also have to check for updates after restore. The will be no update to core package version but it will still need to remove OpenSSL and install LibreSSL and correct reverse dependency packages accordingly.

Cheers,
