Title: updates with "You are currently running in LiveCD mode"
Post by: affinityv on September 04, 2020, 06:38:54 PM
I have some issues with 20.7.2 and am currently running 20.7 with my config via LiveCD method.

Obviously I would like to run 20.7.2 via LiveCD method, but there is no image available to do this.

How can I apply the updates to the image so that it becomes, in theory, 20.7.2 -- I am using the vga amd64 version.

You can try to apply the updates and they will reside in RAM but it's in now way preferable and the unionfs/tmpfs can be unreliable when you force too many file changes on top.

The proper way would be to assemble a new image, but we do not offer stable update images unless we think the original one has defects that should not be in the image. Otherwise it is too tedious to QA test new images for integrity every other week.

I understand, but the point releases don't seem too frequent.  And having a new image built for each one could be handy for further testing by the masses.

Yes, it would. Still no, we can't do for the reasons mentioned. This will have to be done manually via tools.git.
