Title: Upgrading to 20.7 noob question
Post by: FullyBorked on July 30, 2020, 05:10:57 PM
I might be jumping the gun a bit, is there an in place upgrade path to 20.7 or does this require a fresh install from 20.1.*?  I guess I had expected it to install like the last few firmware updates.  I'm new to OPNsense so it's just not clear to me.

From the 20.1.9 Releas notes:
Quote
20.7-RC1 is already available and the final release of 20.7 is scheduled for July 30. A hotfix release for 20.1.9 will enable the upgrade path some hours after the initial 20.7 announcement is out

So just wait for the Hotfix... then you can upgrade...

Yes, might be later today or tomorrow. We just want to be able to double check the major upgrade procedure and let the mirrors sync up (some take up to 12 hours to fetch changes) so that everyone can upgrade without a fetch/signature error.

Cheers,
Franco

Thanks, I read those notes, maybe I just didn't comprehend the "wait for patch some hours after release" part.  Thanks for the reply and clarification, sorry for the dumb question.

Do we know when the Hotfix will be released?

Thanks.

I'm going to channel my inner developer here... When it's ready... Also how long is a piece of string.

@franco

Is it possible to add all the changes since between 20.1 and 20.7 to the 20.7r1 release notes? if people do not work with beta/rc versions they miss all the changes in the update overview because its hidden in 20.7rc1. This may be useful to get a quick overview :)

I upgraded, first upgrade with any issues.... original installation version was 15.1

Until this upgrade, I never had any issues with upgrading whatsoever.

This time, after the "reboot" and any number of reboots from the GUI the Internet would not connect.

I ended up pulling the power plug on my OPNsense box and then power cycling the modem (HFC NBN connection in AU), when it was fully ready, then I re-plugged in the OPNsense box and it seems to have run a migration script (looking at a backup config taken immediately afterwards).

This gave me normal Internet access again.

It would seem that doing a reboot via the GUI some how doesn't do a full power cycle and then the migration script doesn't run.  Doing the full power cycle enabled the migration script [1] to kick in.
