Title: Shaper and Internet Streaming
Post by: spetrillo on December 10, 2019, 01:29:50 AM
I have been fooling around with Shaper, as a tool to guarantee bandwidth to my Internet streaming devices. Unfortunately I am not getting the results I am after, so rather than kill myself I figured it would be good to ask the community.

I have three wired devices that are my main streaming devices. I have gigabit FIOS Internet service. All three streaming devices cannot go past 100 meg due to NIC limitations. Ideally I would like to guarantee 100 meg to each device.

What is the best way to implement this?

You cant guarantee with BSD, you can only cut off or weight. But guarantee or strictly priority queuing is not possible. Why do you want to do this?

I want to ensure a minimum of 100 meg is available to each of the streaming devices, so anything running does not interfere with those minimums. How about a bucket of 300 meg for the devices to share....can that be done?

Then you need a second bucket for the other devices with the rest of the BW
